 2018 Preview 


       Mountain Brook completed the 2017 season with a 8-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 7A region three, the Spartans earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Mountain Brook reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Thompson by a score of 34-10.

       The defense allowed a team record 293 points last season.

       Since 2010, Mountain Brook has gone a combined 63-31. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 7A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Mountain Brook has gone a combined 201-87. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 7A and 33rd in the AHSAA.




       The Spartans are led by head coach Chris Yeager who is entering his thirteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 92-48 over the past twelve seasons at Mountain Brook. Under his direction the Spartans have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times. They have won one region crown with Coach Yeager.

       Coach Yeager's overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 117-68 (63.2%). His 117 wins rank 42nd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Yeager's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times and won two region championships.

       The Mountain Brook Spartans will play in Class 7A region three during the 2018 season.

       Region three will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. The Spartans will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region three this season.

      

       The Spartans open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Northridge on Friday, August 24 at Northridge Stadium. Last year the Northridge Jaguars finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 6A region four. The Jaguars ended last season on a positive note with a win over Central Tuscaloosa by a score of 33-26 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Mountain Brook and Northridge have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Spartans have a 3-0-0 record against the Jaguars. They last met in 2010 with Mountain Brook winning by a score of 17-7.

Collinsville completed the 1931 season with a record of 1-4-5. The five ties will forever be a state record since all games are now decided by overtime.
